Panasonic TH-65PZ750U Review
Last time, we reviewed the 37″ Olevia 537H LCD HDTV. It’s a great unit for its price. But what if you’re looking for something a little⦠grander? What if you want something that will make your friends envy you and your spouse hate you? Gentle reader, do we have the HDTV for you.
The Panasonic TH-65PZ750U is 65 inches of 1080p plasma HDTV goodness. This unit has everything you could want in a high-end plasma HDTV: 1080p resolution, 5,000:1 contrast ratio, ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuner so you can watch anything HD that comes over the air or through a box, a SecureDigital slot so you can look at your pictures on the big screen, and ten different video inputs, including three HDMI inputs and even a Mini D-sub so your can plug in your PC and play the greatest game of BioShock ever. No picture on a website could ever do justice to the sheer immensity of this unit. Big as it is, the picture is absolutely flawless. The sound is good, but a HDTV like this deserves to be hooked up to a proper sound system.
The one and only drawback of the TH-65PZ750U is that it does not come with a stand or any sort of mounting hardware. Panasonic’s stand for this unit will run you a cool $1,000. If you’re planning on mounting it, make sure you use the heavy-duty hardware. At a little over 180 pounds out of the box, this HDTV will bend cheap mounting hardware without a second thought.
There is one thing you will absolutely not want to do when you buy the TH-65PZ750U: do not try to take it home yourself! With a 200+ pound shipping weight, don’t even think of picking this up at your local big-box store and driving it home. Seriously, if the store doesn’t offer free delivery either suck it up and pay or buy it somewhere else. To give you an idea of its size, it does not fit in the rear of a Chevy Tahoe.
So in case you hadn’t guessed, we love this HDTV. But don’t take our word for it. Check out the reviews on Amazon.com, AVS Forum, and CNET Shopper.com and feel the love for yourself!
Panasonic are asking $8,999.95 on their website for this bad boy. Amazon.com wants $4,499.97. Guess where we’re recommending you buy it from? Did we mention free shipping?
